Inside / Out

Over the past five years, I developed a series of cattle portraits rooted in my upbringing in the cattle industry—works created in homage to my father. These paintings pursued precision and fidelity, an effort to replicate the presence of each steer or cow as exactly as possible.

Over time, I came to understand that the pursuit of perfection—on canvas and in life—is a challenging path to fulfillment.

My work has shifted toward abstract. Portraits looked outward, observing and recreating what was in front of me; the abstract work moves in the opposite direction—from the inside out. It begins with introspection: color, form, and gesture emerge from an internal landscape rather than an external subject.

This process is more fluid, more intuitive, and more honest. It allows me to explore what cannot be precisely rendered—the emotional, the unresolved, the evolving.

My work now exists between these two modes: one rooted in observation and legacy, the other in reflection and discovery.

Multi-media artist working across painting, glass, and mixed material processes. Current work explores abstraction through acrylic and mixed media, with earlier work in oil portraiture (animal studies) and sculptural glass.
